Be the BEST!

“Be the best version of yourself.”

Everyday I look forward to tearing off my one-a-day calendar to see what the quote will be for that day.  Yesterday’s made me stop and think a little more than usual.  I am the only me that there will ever be, so I need to make it be the best version.  Easier said than done.  With it being a new year many people are trying to make themselves better.  I enjoy looking back at the past year and seeing how I have grown and looking ahead to opportunities that will be coming my way.  Looking at things over a year really helps.  Sometimes we get so caught up in the day to day things that we don’t see how much we have changed.  I am thankful for friends who are there with me to remind me who I have become.

Now the big question: How do we become the best versions of ourselves?

There are so many opinions out there that say if you follow their plan then you will be happy. If you follow their diet you will lose weight.  If you follow their savings plan you will be rich.  Our society is almost addicted to these things.  In the long run, they never seem to amount to much, at least I know that is true for me.  When I think of my best self, I see myself doing what I enjoy the most with the people I love the most.  This is nothing that I can find in a self help book.  I have to take stock of my hopes, dreams, and talents and figure out how to put them all together.  When all of these things line up, that is when I will be the best me.

Over the course of my life I will have moments where I am able to show the true best version of myself and moments where I need to be reminded who I am.  We all get caught up in the busyness of this world and just feel like another car moving through the game of life. (Side note: I loved the game of Life as a kid!) Things just happen to us as we move along.  Why not change that?  If we want to be all we can be and all that we were created to become, we have to know that there is going to need to be change.  Why not do it on our own terms?  Is your job not what you want, change it.  Is your house not your dream home, change it. Is your health not where you want it, change it.  If we start to do these things on our own we will not get blindsided when we are forced to make a changes.

I have taken that day on the calendar and placed it on the mirror in my bathroom.  With having it there as a reminder for me, I plan on letting those words shape my actions.  I already have ideas.  I want to take time to work on my photography.  I want to continue to help those in need here but also get connected with programs abroad.  And lastly, I want to continue to share my story.  I have really enjoyed finding out more of who I am as I write.

I don’t know where my life will take me, but I know that I will strive to be the best me that there is!
